When I say we do birthday’s right around here, I am most certainly not joking. Whether it is for the kiddos or us – a birthday turns into a weeklong festival of you. We are celebrating all of those beautiful things that make you, you! Everything about you is unique, from your personality to your quirks and traits. You will be celebrated, surrounded by all of your favorite things and foods! Then we take a trip -whether it’s a day trip, weekend trip or a few days away, it is entirely based off of the being we are celebrating!

February 8th is Magdalene’s ninth birthday. She adopted us a little over six years ago. Magda is not a typical dog – much less a husky. The amount of human understanding and complexity she has is stunning and a bit unnerving. Being her perfect little self and the absolute pickiest out of the crew, we knew off the bat this week was going to be hard to “meet her expectations”. Magda logic goes something like: Is it too cold out? Oh no, there is rain! Wait- my meal isn’t warm enough! I cannot eat that – the foods are touching! Why are we hiking here?? Any, yes, the list goes on and yes, we are still talking about a dog (umm fur kid).
Starting with the decorations! Pink, glittery, unicorns, hearts and all the girly things a girly girl could want! The Happy Birthday Balloon Banner with the tiny heart banner is absolute perfection. She has girly bags full of a few of favorite things. One for each day leading to her actual celebration. These Valentine’s inspired plates from Meri Meri have a dainty flair just like her. Of course, it wouldn’t be a party without funfetti cupcakes and pink icing! Rounding it out is a cake topper (unicorn of course!) and a light pink tablecloth. Perfect!
On to the gifts! Each day, she will receive a small gift to share with her sibbies. Her love of t-shirts, dresses, and hoodies led me to finding a cute shop on Etsy- House of Fur Baby. Give them a glance – you won’t regret it! Cute dresses and t-shirts and they even customize! We chose for her Rose Birthday Package… this is a custom tee with a freakin’ tutu (glitzy and glamorous!). The tutu is separate; so, she can wear it with other shirts in her wardrobe! I am thrilled we found this! Other top contenders include chicken heads (weird yes, but a crew favorite), salmon rolls, freeze dried minnows, rabbit bites and full moon chicken jerky.

This girl, I swear in a past life was a princess where only the finest will do. Ummm, we do our best, but she prefers expensive, budget blowing seafood – no ma’am not every week. So, naturally, birthday week will be a lot pricier than our usual weekly grocery trip. We actually save up; so, she can have the best (within reason) fish, seafood and other goodies for an entire week.
On the menu! We have Shrimp Rolls, Garlic Shrimp, Cod Tacos and ending the week with a Fish Fry! Even though these don’t sound “dog friendly”, I assure you they are. We take components of the meal; so, the kiddos can enjoy and celebrate right along with the humans! The Garlic Shrimp night – they’ll enjoy shrimp, and pasta. Cod Taco night: cod and plain broccoli slaw (before I turn it into a cilantro lime slaw). Shrimp Roll: A bite of bread, shrimp and a few unseasoned potatoes. Other easy swaps are to use applesauce or plain pumpkin in place of oil so it’s easier on their tummies but, bonus, we don’t notice a difference flavor-wise! Easy way for us to share all the celebration week of goodies with them! She’s a girl after my own heart. We are carbies- we love bread (as long as it’s gluten free!)! Breakfast will be lox bagels, honey scones, and “Frenchie Toast Bites”. All are favorites of hers and we love them just as much!

To finish out this amazing week, we’ve made her a cake. She is anti-fruit and anti-veggie – always has been and probably always will be. Jeeze girl!!?! Dessert was a hard choice… she is “The RV Park Carb Queen” after all and I needed to make sure it was decadent, easy, wholesome (for the most part) and Magda approved. Enter sun butter cake with a nutty frosting… perfectly balanced sweet and creamy, just as decant as it sounds, and she couldn’t be happier! I love birthday weeks, where we can stretch out our celebrations to make sure our loved ones really know how loved and cherished they are.

Cheers to the next adventure!
