This dude was the bestie. The safety blanket, the shelter in the storm, so to speak, for Kytana. I will be forever grateful for his presence in our lives. Late May 2013, Kytana just went through another round of testing at her vet appointment. She, her usual self, seemed exhausted and anxious. The vet remarked that a friend would do her some good. Hubs and I glanced at each other – both thinking he’s absolutely nuts. We discussed it the whole way home, over dinner and the conversations kept popping up. Before we knew it, we were scouring Craigslist for a potential friend. We were certain we wanted a husky, but we were also certain no puppy. Kytana instilled a fear of husky puppies into us that we were both not ready for that. We landed on his ad sometime mid-June. I read the blurb about a military family, moving again, not able to take him with them and he only had a few days before they would be bringing him to a shelter. That was enough for me. I called hubs and we arranged a meet and greet asap. After work, we took the 2-hour car ride to meet him at their local dog park. Kytana was funny about meeting other dogs, but she lit up seeing Hank the first time. We talked with the family, Kytana and Hank played their hearts out. The whole ride home they slept cozied up together. Hank was not without his issues. He had long term affects from Lyme disease even though it was in remission, hyperkeratosis and ear infections. Other than the typical stubborn husky, he was a gentle easy-going soul. He was lovable, chatty and kept Katana and us entertained. As age and his issues caught up, he put on a brave front. I think it was due to Kytana; he was the big protective brother.
